Market unpredictable but going the farmer’s way

Quoted prices have improved by at least 6 cents/kg (2p/lb). Farmers say processors are trying harder to buy cattle, and they are successfully negotiating for better than quoted prices this week.

Base prices for steers are quoted at 342-348 cents/kg (122p-124p/lb), while sellers of better quality cattle are reporting price top-ups of as much as 6 cents/kg (2p/lb) being paid this week, as the processing sector approaches two consecutive short working weeks.
