Dioxin scare ‘no threat to animal or food safety’

Routine sampling by the department’s officers of a complementary animal feed manufactured in Britain showed 2.14 ng/kg of dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs, exceeding the maximum permitted level of 1.5 ng/kg.

The sampled feed was used by only one mill in Ireland, which manufactured a compound poultry feed. Because the contaminated feed was included in the compound at less than 40kg/tonne, the feed consumed by the animals was legally compliant.
