THE European Commission has suspended the emergency pigmeat storage aid it has offered since late January.

According to the European Commission markets are stabilising, and no storage aid requests were accepted since February 21. Applications for storing about 140,000 tonnes of pigmeat were made.

More than 25% came from Germany where pigmeat contamination by dioxin hit sales; 21% came from Spain; and 13% from Denmark.
