EXPANSION in milk production is the buzz topic in farming in recent times, especially since the publication of the Harvest 2020 report which targets an increase of 50% in the period up to 2020.

The 10-year target seems very ambitious.

However, having regard for the restrictions placed on Irish farmers by the milk quota since 1984, and the likely profitability of dairying compared with other farming enterprises, Irish farmers will not be found wanting.
