Families need these tax reliefs

THE current family farm business model cannot prosper without established tax reliefs and exemptions, worth about €167 million a year.

Particularly for younger farmers, to plan with certainty, Government intentions must be clarified immediately, after the four year plan announcement that reliefs and exemptions from capital gains tax, capital acquisitions tax and stamp duty will either be abolished or greatly restricted.

This blanket treatment could spell disaster for the family farm business model.
