ADVERSE exchange rates have returned to challenge Irish agri-exporters.

The value of sterling slumped 2.6% against the euro in the three weeks to mid-September – which may be linked to Irish cattle prices falling 2.1% in the same period.

The exchange rate trend, which has moved an extra 1.4% since mid-September with further weakening of sterling, is set to hamper cattle price recovery.
