Buying a weanling

THE price you should pay for a weanling should reflect your budget for the year including your estimated production costs and the animal performance of your farm.

Buying a weanling

This will make sure that you do not overpay for an animal that will not give you good returns.

When buying an animal make sure that you are not looking at fat instead of the frame of the animal. It is worth buying a smaller animal that is healthy and that will increase its value with good pasture over the period of your investment. It is only worth adding weight to an animal in the weeks pre slaughter. Look for healthy animals that do not appear nervous or have any obvious infections.
