MOST winter cereal crops have good yield potential, according to Teagasc advisers. In contrast, many spring barley crops are reckoned to have limited yield potential.

Feeding aphids were becoming numerous in winter wheat.

Maize growth has been excellent, with many crops two to three weeks higher than normal, but follow-up herbicides may be needed where weed control was difficult, especially under plastic.
