BOVINE besnoitiosis has followed bluetongue disease from Africa to Europe.

Two years after the first appearance of bluetongue in cattle in central Europe, a herd in southern Germany has been hit by besnoitiosis.

The infected animals showed all the characteristic clinical symptoms, including alopecia and whitish cysts in subcutaneous tissues and the cornea.
