Support for Irish food
It includes the www.loveirishfood.ie website and a dedicated PR and ad campaign.
Only food and drinks manufactured in Ireland, using all available Irish ingredients, are supported by the public information campaign which continues through October, to drive recognition of the new symbol and change consumer thinking and buying patterns. New members, including the recently launched Truly Irish pork, have brought Love Irish Food membership to 46 leading brands.
* Meanwhile, foods carrying the National Dairy Council’s (NDC) new packaging mark for milk or cream farmed and processed in the Republic of Ireland will become available to consumers from October.
The mark can only be printed on products approved under licence by the NDC. Dairies or co-ops which already have products licenced to carry the mark are Arrabawn Co-op, Centenary Thurles Co-op, Clona Dairy Products, Connacht Gold, Donegal Creameries, Glanbia Consumer Foods, Kerry Agribusiness, Lee Strand Co-op, North Cork Co-op, and Wexford Creamery.
NDC chief executive Helen Brophy said: “We would like to urge Irish consumers to watch out for the National Dairy Council mark on packaging in the coming months. In these times of economic challenge, we are asking consumers to show their support for jobs on Irish dairy farms and jobs in the Irish dairy sector in an active way, when they decide what milk or cream they are going to buy.” NDC intends to review the possibility of using the mark for other dairy products, in 2010.
