Extra time for nitrate derogation

INTENSIVELY stocked farmers who plan to go over the limit of 170 kg of nitrogen from livestock manure per hectare, have been given extra time to apply for a derogation.

They are allowed to exceed the 170 kg limit, up to a limit of 250 kg, if they have applied for a derogation. Otherwise, they could face Single Farm Payment penalties.

The deadline for applications has been extended from the original April 3 date to May 15.
