Ireland in line to get €35m for rural broadband

IFA director of organisation, James Kelly, says the funding must be used to provide sustainable broadband to every farm business and home. Member states will be required to amend their rural development plans by June, to facilitate the draw down of the available funds in 2009 and 2010.

The Irish Government already has a National Broadband Scheme in place to bring broadband access to the 1,028 of the country’s 3,440 electoral divisions deeemd to have inadequate broadband services. More than half of these (543) are in the border, midland, and western regions; 485 are in the south and east.
