VERY little progress was made up to this week with sowing of spring cereals, according to Teagasc.

However, some winter wheat was sown in late February.

Growers are advised to wait for suitable soil conditions before sowing spring barley, oats, peas, oilseed rape, fodder beet and potatoes — and to give priority to sowing beans, spring wheat and malting barley. Growth in winter crops of wheat, oats and barley was backward.
