Inspectors must verify pig safety before farmers can release them to market

VETERINARY inspectors from the Department of Agriculture or local authority, or environmental health officers, will verify the safety of pigs before allowing farmers to release them onto the market. Farmers should contact the inspector they deal with for further information.

All pig products, including organic, were recalled. Organic products will be released by inspectors once safety is verified.

Although only about 10% of Irish pigmeat is thought to have been contaminated, it was mixed in with about 80% of all pigmeat produced in Ireland in processing plants, and it was impossible to differentiate between products.
