KERRY farmers face a major fodder crisis, according to Fine Gael TD Jimmy Deenihan.

“Farmers had cattle in over the summer and now they do not have enough fodder. In many cases, they only have enough until February,” he said in the Dáil, during last week’s discussion of the Fine Gael motion condemning budget cuts in agriculture.

“This year we produced about 500 hectares of maize in Co Kerry, most of which was of poor quality.”
