THERE is a much improved trade for the quality heifers at factories this week, and price gains also for steers, although more modest, as the supply of cattle has continued to fall — and has collapsed in comparison with 12 months ago.

Processors are finding it harder to source cattle this week. They claim that they are not seeking large supplies.

Gone from the equation this week is the threat by processors to discount prices for over 30 months cattle.
