IFA has called on the EU to reintroduce a new Aids to Private Storage scheme and/or export incentives, after the pigmeat market on the continent deteriorated this week.

Irish pigmeat processors supported pig prices this week, in contrast to Germany and Spain, where price falls were the most severe, and Denmark, where prices were revised downwards on Friday despite expectations of unchanged prices.

According to IFA, export plants here generally quoted this week for pigs at €1.52 to 1.58, flat rate, plus the welfare bonus of two to six cent, according to IFA.
