SPREADING of farmyard manure and slurry has been extended two more weeks, to November 30 — conditional on weather and ground conditions being suitable.

Landspreading cannot be carried out when, for example, land is waterlogged, flooded or likely to flood, frozen or if heavy rain is forecast within 48 hours, nor in buffer zones specified for lakes, rivers and streams.

Agriculture Minister Brendan Smith made the announcement last week after consultation with Environment Minister John Gormley — although he had earlier stated that in no part of the country would good agricultural practice involve slurry spreading in November or December.
