Suspensions may be illegal, says Creed

THE suspension of the Early Retirement Scheme (ERS) and the installation Aid Scheme (IAS) may be illegal for many recipients, Fine Gael has claimed.

Deputy Michael Creed, the party’s spokesperson on agriculture, said this is due to a legal principle known as legitimate expectation.

This refers to a situation where a person has a reasonable belief of a long-standing practice continuing and makes plans based on that belief.
