Bank details delay may slow payments

A SIZEABLE number of farmers haven’t yet given the Department of Agriculture details of the bank accounts needed to receive direct payments from October 16, said Agriculture Minister Brendan Smith last week.

Bank details delay may slow payments

Failure to supply the details may result in delay of payments, such as the €250m of Disadvantaged Area cheques going to more than 100,000 farmers, and the €600m of advance single farm payments due from October 16. After this date payments can only be made via electronic funds transfer to a farmer’s account.

Farmers were urged to reply quickly to any correspondence from the Department on Disadvantaged Area cheques. If they have not yet received payment, they could call one of the lo-call numbers listed on the www.agriculture.gov.ie website.
