THERE was little relief this week for loss-making pig farmers, who were told by IFA that factories have not increased prices — despite further increases across Europe.

In four weeks, producers have gained 12c per kg in Germany, 14c in the Netherlands, 12c in Belgium, and 13c in Austria, according to IFA.

However, IFA said some pig farmer groups have seen a slight rise in prices, and €1.50 per kg was being paid for southern pigs by buyers from Northern Ireland, where demand is described as very strong.
