Pig prices remain the same

NO price increase was achieved in the Republic for this week’s pigs. Much of last week’s price falls in the EU were recovered, with increases reported of 3-4 cents/kg in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, while the Danish price dropped 3 cents/kg.

For the first time since mid-February, Ireland has come within 4% of the EU average, which stood at €1.45/kg for last week’s pigs.

Factory pig throughput for the week ending April 14 was 49,983, 7,876 head more than the corresponding week in 2007. The year-on-year pig kill is now running approximately 0.9% behind last year’s figure.
