A REVERSAL of the recent upward trend in cattle supplies may put more pressure on beef processors over the coming weeks.

As the trade moves towards one of the critical periods for supply, from late April to June, processors are bracing themselves to have to pay more to secure expected very tight supplies of cattle for at least six weeks, until the first cattle finished off grass become available.

Prices being paid across the country for beef cattle this week tended slightly higher than last week, with most factories finding it harder to get sufficient cattle to supply beef market demands.
