Spring cereal crops face sowing delay

MORE than half of the spring cereal crops in the lighter textured soils of the south had been sown up to the middle of last week, according to Teagasc.

Little progress has been made in the heavier soils of the north-east where up to 75% of spring cereals were still to be sown. Only the earliest of spring sown crops had broken ground. With many crops to be sown it was too late for spring wheat or beans Little beet or main crop potatoes had been planted.
