Japanese move for self-sufficiency may impact on Irish exports

The far eastern country aims to cut its food imports — including €42m of Irish goods — by one-sixth. Most of that is pigmeat, with our total exports of meat and meat preparations to Japan exceeding €25m per year.

Our trade in nearly €6m of seafood could be affected too, but hopefully the Japanese plan to increase food self-sufficiency won’t affect our annual shipments of nearly €4m of beverages.
