ICMSA backs one-man dairying

ICMSA backs one-man dairying

ICMSA president Jackie Cahill told the Irish Examiner Farming forum at the National Dairy Show in Millstreet that large units with thousands of cows are neither realistic nor desirable here.

“We propose that the butterfat quota should be abolished and an EU wide superlevy scheme should operate. The abolition of the butterfat quota would provide us with a quota increase of about 1.8%, with Ireland benefiting more than other member states, while the adoption of an EU-wide superlevy scheme would not lead to more production at EU level, but would allow us to expand,” he said.
