RECENT comparisons indicate that Brazil produces beef for as little as one fifth of the beef production cost in the EU.

Ranchers in Brazil spend €128 at most to produce 100 kilograms of beef, according to a study by Agri Benchmark, a global network of agricultural economists.

At the other end of the costs calculated for 14 countries is Austria, where farmers spend about €690 to produce 100kg of beef. Production costs in Britain are calculated at €600 per 100kg.
