ONE of the world’s largest food companies has warned against land needed for food production being used to grow biofuels.

“Land availability for both food and fuel is very questionable”, warned Guenther Buck, managing director of Unilever, at a conference organised by the European Parliament’s Green group.

He said a 50% more food will be needed to feed the world’s growing population in 20 years time.
