Farmers have found price variations of up to €40 per tonne for fertiliser this spring between cash and credit prices.

IFA Inputs Project Team Leader Eddie Downey said that strong competition in the market has enabled farmers who shopped around or group purchased to hold their fertiliser prices at, or close to, last season’s levels.

He said the nitrates directive has brought a plethora of different compounds, but farmers should “do the sums” because they may work out more expensive than run-of-the-mill compounds.
