New Macra president’s win warmly welcomed
An accountant by profession, the Cork farmer’s daughter is the first woman leader ever for the 63-year-old youth organisation, and the first in very many decades whose main occupation is not farming.
She is also the first elected without a contest in many decades. But Catherine — who is the current National Chairperson of Macra — was likely to be a very strong contender in any election for the position, given her record in Macra and her commitment to the ideals of the organisation.
