Energy crops need careful consideration before investing

Energy production, whether by growing crops or constructing wind turbines, is the latest alternative area, but here too, it is prudent to carefully consider the potential for farmers, who need reasonable assurances on the way forward.

What is currently available to them is, in general, an incomplete and fragmented offering, with no clear guideline as to the potential, with none of the clear detail on production, processing, and marketing structures, or investment and returns — information which should be fundamental for any farmer making a long term commitment.
