Clare aims to clear backlog

CLARE County Council has announced details of a once-off scheme aimed at clearing the backlog of farm plastics.

Clare aims to clear backlog

Over the next six weeks farmers will be able to dispose of silage covers and bale wraps at 11 drop-off points. The scheme is funded by the Department of Environment, Heritage & Local Government, and organised at a local level by Clare County Council in conjunction with farming organisations.

Farm plastic collections ceased in 2005 following the discovery that the levy paid by farmers when purchasing plastics was insufficient to cover the full cost of the service. A new system will be established whereby farmers will continue to pay the levy along with a €50/half ton upon collection.
