EVERY time the price of crude oil hits a new record there is an increased awareness of higher fuel bills and a necessity for more sustainable and cheaper sources of energy.

Taxation on imported fuel is a huge revenue earner for the Government, which has been particularly weak on encouraging diversification in energy supply sources. Their inactivity leaves us bracing for a future of continually increasing costs for oil generated power, farm production, transport, etc.

But the higher the cost of fuel, the more revenue for the state, if consumption remains constant.
