Farmers’ markets ‘have potential’

FARMERS’ markets represent a real growth opportunity for farmers and small-scale food producers.

That’s what Agriculture and Food Minister Mary Coughlan told Tipperary North TD Michael Lowry in a written reply to a Dáil question about the supports available for setting up such markets.

Ms Coughlan said there are now more than 100 of these markets in operation throughout Ireland, reflecting the increased demand for fresh locally produced foods.
