Bid to promote Féile Bia hostelries

Bord Bia has launched a nationwide information campaign to promote Féile Bia participating restaurants, hotels and caterers in every county.

Féile Bia is a catering industry initiative that allows certified traceability of fresh meat and eggs from farm to fork.

The campaign includes individual advertisements for each county that list details of all participating food establishments in that county and encourages the public to look for the Féile Bia plaque when eating out.

Féile Bia members include restaurants, hotels, pubs and other catering outlets. These undertake to serve fresh beef, lamb, pork, bacon, chicken and eggs that have been purchased from recognised Bord Bia Quality Assurance Schemes and small scale suppliers.

Research carried out last year by the Consumer Liaison Panel, at the Department of Agriculture and Food, showed that when questioned on food traceability, 68% of consumers wanted to see specific country of origin information on menus.

Bord Bia home market director Owen Brooks said consumers understandably want reassurance about the traceability and origin of food when eating out.

A new Féile Bia outdoor plaque was launched in February to allow the public to easily identify restaurants, which are participating in the scheme.

A competition for trips to the Ryder Cup 2004 in Detroit will be launched in May and all diners at participating Féile Bia restaurants are eligible to enter.

Full details of Féile Bia and a list of all members are available at www.bordbia.ie.
