Call for Wood Energy Action Plan

Ireland: As oil prices continue to soar, the Government has been urged by the IFA to introduce a Wood Energy Action Plan.

Call for Wood Energy Action Plan

Joe Jackson, chairman, Farm Forestry Committee, said: “Along with the obvious environmental benefits and security of fuel supply, wood energy could have a massive role to play in rural development, creating market opportunities for farmer foresters and generating employment.”

Mr Jackson said a buoyant wood energy market will also promote a market outlet for farmers to carry out thinning on their plantations, which will in turn promote better quality home grown timber.
