THE floury spud is still top of the pops with Irish consumers, according to figures published by Bord Bia.

Shoppers spend almost €150 million a year in purchasing potatoes in retail outlets countrywide, the food agency’s survey said.

New season potatoes account for 10% of total production in Ireland with a farmgate value of €8.5m.
