Waterford: One of the four animals confirmed with BSE this week was born after feed controls were tightened in 1996 and early 1997.

The seven-year-old suckler was from a Waterford herd.

The other infected animals were located in Galway, Limerick and Clare. Two of these were 10-year-olds and one was a nine-year-old.
