Just as farmers were coming to grips with the Single Payment System, and considering how best they can adapt to this new system until 2013, a British power play in Brussels casts a cloud over their EU support.

It's money from Brussels keeps farmers going. So forget about supply and demand for farm produce, and concentrate instead on the low political ratings for French and German leaders Schroeder and Chirac, the French and Dutch "Nos" to the EU Constitution, the UK's 30-year love-hate relationship with Brussels, and the hopes and dreams of 10 new member states.
