Average pig price trails EU-25 by 9 cent per kg

PIG prices generally gained 2c/kg this week. IFA said prices ranged from 138 to 145 cent/kg, with strong demand keeping spot prices up to 145 cent, despite the “short” week.

Export plants mostly quote 138 cent to 143 cent net, with 6c extra for welfare pigs. The pork slaughtering price range is 140 to 144 cent. Other IFA price estimates are €48 to €52 for 32kg weaners, and €31 to €35 per cwt liveweight for sows. For the week ending April 1, prices averaged 135 cent in Ireland, 144 cent in the EU 25.
