Naughten call on Teagasc closures

FINE Gael agriculture spokesman Denis Naughten, TD, has called on the Minister to intervene to prevent the proposed closures of Teagasc offices in Boyle, Bagenalstown, Loughrea and Cork.

Meanwhile, the rationalisation and re-orientation of the farming body is continuing, according to a press statement from Teagasc. Among the aims are better clerical and information technology support for advisers, with a view to greater efficiency and an overall improved service for farmers and rural dwellers, as well as better value for taxpayers’ money.

As part of this process, Teagasc says it will continue to provide a comprehensive advisory service from Bailieboro in Co Cavan.
