The domestic trade for lamb has reached its highest level in more than a decade, accounting for more than one third of Irish production in 2004.

The home trade for lamb is expected to top 35% in 2004 and show further growth over the next few years. A gradual increase in sales since 2001 has been maintained at a steady pace, increasing the importance of the domestic market for lamb producers.

Reflecting the growing importance of the home lamb trade for the industry, Bord Bia has decided that a promotional campaign for lamb in Ireland should precede its campaign in France.
