IT was the coldest March for five to ten years, and colder than December or January at many Met Eireann weather stations.

March was cold and wet

Birr’s ground temperature of minus 16.0°C on the 3rd was its lowest for March since the station opened in 1954. Valentia had its coldest March since 1996.

It was also the wettest March for eight to 18 years in most places.
