Cheaper to purchase concentrates for over-wintering than make dear silage
Farmers have been warned by leading Teagasc specialist, Liam Fitzgerald, to keep a close eye on silage costs as findings reveal that the costs on some farms has increased to more than double that of the most efficient farms.
In the Teagasc publication Todays Farm, Mr Fitzgerald has underlined that it would be cheaper for some farmers to purchase concentrates for livestock feeding than to continue their silage systems.
