IFA to campaign on nitrates changes

A consultation paper on the draft regulations to implement the European Union’s nitrates directive in Ireland was launched yesterday by Environment Minister Dick Roche.

But IFA president John Dillon said the draft regulations would impose unnecessary restrictions on good farming, increase costs and impose further layers of pointless bureaucracy for no environment gain.

“IFA will be using the one-month consultation period to mount a major campaign to remove unnecessary and excessive restrictions on good farming included in the draft regulations,” he said.
