Claims that the Common Agricultural Policy is damaging to developing countries was rejected as a simplistic generalisation by Agriculture Minister Joe Walsh at a conference in London yesterday.

He said these claims ignore the fact that the European Union is the largest importer of agricultural products from developing countries.

In fact, the EU imports from developing countries as much as the US, Japan, Canada, Australia and New Zealand together.
