Calf prices back by €40 per head

Marts: Calf prices for beef breeds are showing a drop averaging €40/head in the year to date as adjustment post -premia regime settles into the beef sector.

The amount of the difference in the average for the first eight months of the year for heifers and bulls in the beef sector is similar, but the heifers have suffered a larger percentage decline, with the reduction coming off a lower base.

Year to date beef breed bulls are showing a reduction of 15% in the average price paid, according to the official figures compiled by the Department of Agriculture from sales at the reference marts at Bandon and Blessington.
