Steer supplies to the factories dropped by 500 head last week, with the last of the shed cattle gone and the new season supply off grass not yet on stream.

Demand for beef on the export markets is not hectic, but the trade is steady, and some slight improvements have been noticed, despite the falling value of sterling also hitting exporters.
