Improved trade in top-quality cattle

Kilkenny Mart had one of their largest sales year to date, with prices for the quality bullocks improved by up to €50/head and prices were also stronger at Bandon and Ennis. The heavy quality bullocks made up to €530 over €/kg in very strong demand. Store bullocks 400-500 kgs made up to €460 over and light stores topped at €400 over. The best of the heavy heifers made up to €450 over with stores ranging €220-€340 over.

“We had a lot of cattle and an excellent trade” said mart manager Michael Harty, adding that buyers are showing no hesitation about paying the higher price particularly for quality animals and the forward lots aimed at finishing over the next two months. There was a bigger entry at Bandon, where there was a very good trade for quality cattle, while plainer lots were slightly easier. The heavy bullocks made up to €385 over €/kg, with prices scaling back to €200 over, and lighter animals selling back to €180 over. Heavy heifers continued a good trade at up to €285 over.
