INTERFERENCE by Government officials in Dublin has been blamed by IFA leader, John Dillon, for the rejection of Ireland’s Nitrates Directive action plan.

"We know that the Brosnan proposals for dealing with the Nitrate Directive were acceptable in Brussels, but then there was a change of mind and we believe that was the result of interference by an Irish Government official", Mr Dillon told farmers at a meeting in Co Limerick.

As the deadline looms for Ireland to re-submit an action plan, the IFA president fired a warning shot across the bows of the Government: "We will have a serious problem supporting the EU Constitutional Referendum if we don't get a solution out of this and you all know that is coming up before the end of the year."
